OCTOBER 21 — HUMAN VS. AI
Three Human selections by Darryl Wilson. Three AI-generated selections. All six await game results. Previous graded results: Human 0–3, AI 2–1, Overall 2–4; today's outcomes are not included.
MINNESOTA AT MIAMI — 4:30 PM PT
Reference spread: Miami −1.5 / Minnesota +1.5. Reference total: 240.5.
HUMAN — Minnesota +1.5
Darryl's final selection is Minnesota against the spread. He described two teams with major offseason additions and examined Miami's running game, Minnesota's perimeter shooting and Miami's interior defense. He replaced his earlier total selection with Minnesota +1.5. He did not supply a separate final explanation for the spread switch; those earlier Under concerns are not presented as the reason for this side.
What could beat it: Miami controls transition and the paint and wins by two or more.
AI — Over 240.5
Miami's pace and scoring depth offer paths through early offense, two-point scoring and free throws. Minnesota does not necessarily require exceptional three-point shooting if it generates easier baskets. This is qualitative AI analysis, not a model projection.
What could beat it: Minnesota protects the ball, slows possessions and forces set defenses; the Wolves struggle to score against Bam and Giannis.
FACTS THAT MATTER
Miami's preseason games averaged 250.4 combined points; Minnesota's averaged 234.3. Different lineups limit those samples. Their 125–124 meeting featured reserves and strong shooting, so it is not a starting-lineup forecast. Miami's 144–128 win over Brooklyn included 15/42 threes and 40/51 two-pointers: pace and exceptional inside-the-arc efficiency both mattered. [1][2]
DALLAS AT HOUSTON — 5:30 PM PT
Reference spread: Houston −9.5 / Dallas +9.5. Reference total: 230.5.
HUMAN — Houston −9.5
Darryl: Houston's bench is loaded. I like Houston at home; Dallas doesn't have enough to keep up. Dallas also opens with a new coach coming from college, Dusty May. Houston's depth and this matchup make the Rockets my selection.
What could beat it: Kyrie and Flagg keep Dallas close, or a late Dallas run produces a backdoor cover.
AI — Houston −9.5
Houston can attack Dallas's depleted frontcourt and use its depth over four quarters. Gafford foul trouble would increase Dallas's interior burden. Houston needs a double-digit win, not simply a home victory.
What could beat it: Dallas protects the ball, limits second chances and gets efficient creation from Kyrie and Flagg.
FACTS THAT MATTER
Dallas went 1–3 in preseason; Houston 2–1. They split two Macao meetings: Houston 135–117, Dallas 132–115. Rotation differences mean those scores alone cannot establish tonight's edge. [3]
GOLDEN STATE AT LAKERS — 7:00 PM PT
Reference spread: Lakers −6.5 / Golden State +6.5. Reference total: 234.5.
HUMAN — Lakers −6.5
Darryl: Golden State's center position is a problem against the Lakers. I expect the Lakers to pressure and double Curry as I saw in preseason. Curry can keep Golden State close, but I am taking the Lakers' advantage inside.
What could beat it: Curry's shooting or Golden State's four-on-three execution keeps the margin within six.
AI — Lakers −6.5
The Lakers' interior size and Podziemski's absence offer a path to separation. Luka's playmaking adds a test Golden State did not face in the two preseason meetings.
What could beat it: Golden State moves the ball out of doubles and turns small lineups into open shots.
FACTS THAT MATTER
October 13: Warriors 101, Lakers 89. Curry had 11 points in 22:36; Podziemski had 17 in 26:02. Kessler had 11 points and nine rebounds in 15:55. Luka did not play. Preseason results are context, not proof of tonight's outcome. [4]
